When wearing black isn’t enough…

This year was a first for the Golden Globes- the women chose to wear black to protest the rampant sex abuse that was brought to light in recent months. The Time’s up campaign, that 300 actresses have signed up for, have teamed up with the National Women’s Law Center and have raised $15 million over the weekend.

The awards started the dialogue too with Debra Messings questioning E! on gender pay gap, to Natalie Portman calling out the all male best director nominees, to Oprah’s speech that many termed presidential. It was a defining moment for an evening that focused on glitz and glamor and the outfits to take on something real.

But something about this felt very hollow to me. It didn’t connect at all, firstly because the issues brought to light weren’t breaking news, everyone knew about Harvey Weinstein being a pig and yet fawned over him. I get that he was powerful and you don’t mess with that, but no leading lady came to support the first accusers until there was enough media attention. Other examples: Roman Polanski got a standing ovation when he won the Oscar for Pianist, and Woody Allen got a free pass for being a genius. Yes, there is finally a united voice but in some ways, the leading ladies didn’t lead by example in the protests.

The other part is wearing black as protest almost feels like a themed party- it isn’t like a protest T-shirt where everyone is wearing the same slogan. If we are protesting the focus on dresses, maybe the solution is a boycott to “what are you wearing” questions, and if we are focusing on the sex abuse prevalent, then maybe discussing that would be a start. Instead the attention is focused on the black dress and the message is lost.

One amazing idea I saw online was if the women wore suits instead with the message they are taking the power in Hollywood. That would have been a powerful message, and one that was echoed through the evening.

It’s a step in the right direction to bring this issue to light, but let’s move past the token gesture of wearing black and have a meaningful dialogue. Let’s move the discussion forward, but real steps not fashionable twirls!

10 Notable looks of Oscars 2016

Oscars is finally here! Unfortunately, being across the pond means I have to resort to viewing online clips the next day to write my review; I miss the real time experience. This year’s red carpet was a bit of a disappointment- all the gowns were unoriginal, nothing that was absolutely unique.

Here are my 10 notable looks from Oscars 2016

Brie

Brie Lawson (Source: Getty Images)

This year’s best actress winner Brie Lawson in this blue ruffled Gucci gown with a sparkling belt. While I am in love with the color, it has too many ruffles and her hair was all wrong.

Alicia

Alicia Vikander (Source: Getty Images)

The other winner, Alicia Vikander, wore a yellow strapless Louis Vuitton number, which looks inspired by Beauty and the Beast. While it is definitely different from the typical red carpet gowns, it looks like a prom dress.

J Law

Jennifer Lawrence (Source: Getty Images)

Red carpet favorite Jennifer Lawrence wore a sleeveless black Dior Haute Couture gown to compliment her new platinum hair. It isn’t the most original gown, the hair and dress worked together.

Priyanka

Priyanka Chopra (Source: Getty Images)

Desi Girl Priyanka Chopra put India on the map, presenting at the Oscars. She looked incredible in this strapless Zuhair Murad gown. Priyanka was in all the press for her 8 million dollars worth of Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, including 50 carat earrings- I am not a fan of the earrings. It doesn’t look like 50 carat real diamond earrings, more like the fake cubic zirconia ones. But all in all, great moment for Priyanka, well done!

Jen Garner

Jennifer Garner (Source: Getty Images)

Back in the singles market, Jennifer Garner stunned in this strapless black Versace gown with an asymmetrical neckline, showcasing her incredibly toned body.

Chrissy

Chrissy Teigen (Source: Getty Images)

Now this is pregnancy fashion done right! Chrissy Teigen wore a floral embellished Marchesa gown, which clung her blossoming bump.

Charlize

Charlize Theron (Source: Getty Images)

Charlize Theron wore a daring low cut and slinky red number by Christian Dior along with a 48.8 carat Harry Winston diamond necklace, along with 15.49 carat diamond earrings and a cushion cut diamond ring. She wore an impressive haul of 3.7 million dollars worth of jewelry. While her jewelry was impressive, Charlize’s gown is extremely similar to her prior Oscar looks. Come on Charlize, try something new!

Naomi

Naomi Watts (Source: Getty Images)

Another flashback from previous Oscars was Naomi Watts in strapless sapphire and amethyst Armani Prive gown, with a statement diamond necklace from Bulgari. The beading and sparkles look a bit tacky, and the look is a bore.

Sofia Vergara

Sofia Vergara (Source: Getty Images)

Sofia Vergara wowed with her curves in his strapless midnight blue Marchesa gown with silver details. While it isn’t the most unique gown, it is a departure from her typical mermaid style gowns. Sofia complemented the look with dangling 65 carat sapphire and diamond earrings by Lorraine Schwartz. I am not a fan of Sofia’s earrings or hair-do, but amazing outfit all in all!

Cate

Cate Blanchett (Source: Getty Images)

One of the stars to watch on the red carpet is Cate Blanchett, she is never boring and has the most unique style. This Oscars, she wore a green plunging Armani Prive gown. It was a polarizing dress, hitting best and worst dressed lists everywhere. I am not a fan of the color, it washes her out and the flower detail was cheap. Great attempt at bringing life to the red carpet, but sadly wrong choice of gown.

That wraps it up! Share your best and worst looks below…

Oscars Fashion 2015- What were they thinking!

As we continue with the Oscars 2015 round-up, I want to list the worst dressed, or what were they thinking segment!

Lady Gaga (Source: Invision)

Lady Gaga (Source: Invision)

We have to start this list with Lady Gaga, this was probably what we expected anyways. But this white Azzedine Alaia outfit with ridiculously large gaping sleeves and strange oversized gloves. I never get the creative theme that Lady Gaga tries to achieve.

Felicity Jones (Source: Invision)

Felicity Jones (Source: Invision)

Felicity Jones, star of Theory of Everything, was a huge disappointment in this Alexander McQueen dress. It was all wrong- the neckline looks uncomfortable, the fabric and skirt looks unflattering, it looks like a bridesmaid dress. Fail!

Marion Cotillard

Marion Cotillard (Source: Invision)

Maybe I don’t get high fashion, but this white polka dot Christian Dior Couture gown that Marion Cotillard wore was a mess! She has such an awesome shape, so why is she wearing this blanket! And what is the black price tag like thing on her back?

Lupita N'yongo (Source: Getty Images)

Lupita N’yongo (Source: Getty Images)

Last year’s fashion darling Lupita N’yongo underwhelmed in this 6000 pearls dress by Fransisco Costa as part of Calvin Klien Collection. I am sure it is high fashion, but the top part looked too busy! Huge disappointment!

Emma Stone (Source: Wireimage)

Emma Stone (Source: Wireimage)

Emma Stone wore this pale green embellished number by Elie Saab- the dress overwhelmed her in my opinion. Not a good fit for the fashion forward Emma!

Nicole Kidman (Source: Invision)

Nicole Kidman (Source: Invision)

Nicole Kidman wore a strapless shimmery dress with a red belt. The dress in itself looks like a disco ball, but add a red belt that looks like a ribbon from a gift store, and you have a disaster!

Gwyneth Paltrow (Source: Getty Images)

Gwyneth Paltrow (Source: Getty Images)

No this isn’t because of GOOP! Gwyneth Paltrow wore this pale pink dress by Ralph Lauren. This dress reminds me the episode in Friends, where Pheobe’s dress has a spill and she covers it with a large Christmas flower ornament. The shoulder flower seems random and out of place.

Jessica Chastain (Source: Invision)

Jessica Chastain (Source: Invision)

I love Jessica Chastain, and I love this shade of blue- so I was a bit sad to put this on my worst dressed. But this sleeveless number by Givenchy makes the slender Jessica look awkward and out of shape.

Naomi Watts (Source: Invision)

Naomi Watts (Source: Invision)

Naomi Watts, my style favorite, wore this rather casual looking dress by Armani Prive. It reminds me of the casual beach tunic with the bikini peeking through the sides. Not the right occasion!

So that rounds it off folks! Sound off your views! Au revoir red carpet season!

Oscars Fashion 2015- The winners!

We are already at the end of the fashion season-today is the day of the Oscars! Its time for beautiful gowns, incredible jewelry, and a lot of questions saying “who are you wearing?”. The E coverage of red carpet was more muted with questions on role and the Oscar experience, due to the protests against mani cam and the fashion questions.

The big trends for the day: strapless dresses and statement necklaces. No hugely different trends, but I felt like it was better than last year.

So without further ado, here are the Best dressed from the Oscars 2015!

Julianne Moore (Source: Univision)

Julianne Moore (Source: Univision)

One of my favorite looks for tonight was the woman who would most likely win best actress tonight- Julianne Moore. Julianne wore a white custom Chanel off shoulder gown- class and a winner all around! Loved the simple earrings and stylish bun- perfection!

Rosamund Pike (Source: Invision)

Rosamund Pike (Source: Invision)

Gone girl star Rosamund Pike looked spectacular in this red strapless Givenchy number. She was underwhelming me this red carpet, but she brought her A game for the main event of the season, and she looked sensational!

Reese Witherspoon (Source: Invision)

Reese Witherspoon (Source: Invision)

Another best actress nominee Reese Witherspoon looked fantastic in a white and black Tom Ford number. The dress fits her like a glove, and the simple hair was just what it needed. Excellent!

Margot Robbie (Source: Invision)

Margot Robbie (Source: Invision)

Margot Robbie looked sensational- firstly blonde is her color, the dark hair is just not her. She looked stunning in this black Saint Laurent dress, but what stole the show for me was her Van Cleef & Arpels necklace. I would give my arm and leg for this stunning masterpiece!

Jennifer Aniston (Source: Invision)

Jennifer Aniston (Source: Invision)

Jennifer Aniston was one of the surprising snubs this year- she looked incredible in this sparkled strapless Versace gown.

Anna Kendrick (Source: Invision)

Anna Kendrick (Source: Invision)

Anna Kendrick looked flawless in this pink sleeveless gown by Thakoon. The color was a welcome pop of color in the sea of white and black.

Dakota Johnson (Source: Invision)

Dakota Johnson (Source: Invision)

Star of the 50 Shades of Grey movie Dakota Johnson looked like a movie star in this gorgeous red Saint Laurent gown. I loved the dress, but she might need better Spanx!

Scarlett Johansson (Source: Invision)

Scarlett Johansson (Source: Invision)

New mom Scarlett Johansson looked stunning in this green sleeveless number by Atelier Versace- I am on the fence about the necklace, but the dress was sensational!

Jennifer Lopez (Source: Invision)

Jennifer Lopez (Source: Invision)

I was suprised to see Jennifer Lopez at Oscars- her outfit didn’t disappoint. She wore a sleeveless embellished Elie Saab gown, with a plunging neckline. This is exactly what you would expect from J Lo!

OK, so that was my list- let me know if you agree! Next up, what you were thinking segment…

Grammy 2015 Fashion

I have to start with saying I am obsessed with Stay With Me by Sam Smith. This year’s Grammy’s had some awesome songs- All of me, Stay with me, Shake it off, Dark horse, Sky full of stars- so many great songs. My only gripe with the show- artists should play their hit numbers, not try new numbers (or unpopular ones!)

Here is a round of the always unusual, and sometimes outrageous fashion….

Katy Perry (Source: Getty Images)

Katy Perry (Source: Getty Images)

The star of the moment, Katy Perry- fresh of her super bowl performance, looked incredible in this sparkly number by Zuhaid Murad, complimenting her lavender hair. Love her spunk, style and confidence!

Taylor Swift (Source: Getty Images)

Taylor Swift (Source: Getty Images)

Next up, my brother’s favorite Shake it off star (and Katy Perry’ frenemy!) Taylor Swift- Taylor wore this blue number by Elie Saab. I am impressed with Taylor’s style evolution- she is moving from her standard sparkly numbers to more edgy styles. Love it!

Beyonce (Source: Getty Images)

Beyonce (Source: Getty Images)

Next up, Grammy royalty- Beyonce! Winner and performer every year- she stuck to her trademark sheer style in this black number. Looks great, but nothing special!

rihanna

Rihanna (Source: Getty Images)

Now for the ridiculous number from Rihanna- she used to be edgy and now this is just crazy! This pink Giambattista Valli tulle gown is shapeless and tent-like. She could smuggle a person under that! Disappointed!

Gwen Stefani (Source: Getty Images)

Gwen Stefani (Source: Getty Images)

One of my teenage favorites Gwen Stefani was back on the red carpet, and how! She looked incredible in this pant suit number by Atelier Versace.

Meghan Trainor (Source: Getty Images)

Meghan Trainor (Source: Getty Images)

I was looking forward to seeing All about the bass star Meghan Trainor- but her outfit was a bit of a disappointment. This sheer number by Galia Lahav was a mess to me- it looked like her Spanx were showing under a sheer dress. Sorry Meghan, your songs rock, but the dress- not so much!

kim

Kim Kardashian (Source: Wireimages)

Kardashian clan star and wife of Kanye West looked like she was wearing her sparkly bathrobe to the red carpet in this sparkly number by Jean Paul Gautier. Not as high fashion as she imagines it to be…

Madonna (Source: Getty Images)

Madonna (Source: Getty Images)

Madonna continues in her mission to look young by dressing provocatively, and failing. In this burlesque inspired Givenchy number, she looked ridiculous. Grow up please- give us the chance to admire your music, not mock the ridiculous fashion!

So what do you think? Who were you obsessed with!

SAG awards 2015 Fashion!

So the second big award show is here- I was pleasantly surprised to see very different looks from the Golden Globes.

Sidebar: I missed Ryan and Giuliana- I was visibly cringing watching Maria interview, especially when she asked everyone to walk the mani-cam and they all turned it down! Awkward!

10 Notable Looks from the SAG awards:

Emma Stone

Emma Stone (Source: Getty Images)

Emma Stone always brings something different to red carpets, and this time is no different. This time around, she rocked this tuxedo styled Dior haute couture gown with the red lip for a pop of color- hitting the androgynous trend and wowing the red carpet audience!

Felicity Johnson

Felicity Jones (Source: Getty Images)

Felicity Jones, who stars in the highly acclaimed movie Theory of Everything  looked incredible in this Balenciaga gown.

21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Arrivals

Sofia Vergara (Source: Getty Images)

Newly engaged star of Modern Family and one of my red carpet favorites Sofia Vergara doesn’t disappoint. She wore a red one shoulder Donna Karan that perfectly complimented her gorgeous ring and arm candy Joe Manganiello.

Kiera Knightley (Source: Getty Images)

Kiera Knightley (Source: Getty Images)

Best supporting actress nominee Keira Knightley looks incredible in this draped purple Erdem gown. This is the perfect gown for the pregnant star, though her hair looks messy!

Julianne Marguiles (Source: Getty Images)

Julianne Marguiles (Source: Getty Images)

I might be partial to Julianne Marguiles because of Good Wife- I loved her in this blue Giambattista Valli gown with a mega-high slit. I wasn’t a fan of her hair style, but still a stunner!

Julianne Moore (Source: Getty Images)

Julianne Moore (Source: Getty Images)

Julianne Moore wore this green beaded number by Givenchy. I love the bottom of the dress, but the top looks a lot like t-shirt dresses- nothing fancy!

Rosamund Pike (Source: Getty Images)

Rosamund Pike (Source: Getty Images)

Rosamund Pike was the star to watch on the red carpet- so far her fashion choices haven’t won me over. This purple Dior Haute Couture number is shapeless and doesn’t really impress.

Reese Witherspoon (Source: Getty Images)

Reese Witherspoon (Source: Getty Images)

Reese Witherspoon looks incredible in this fitted white Giorgio Armani number with stunning Harry Winston diamonds.

Jennifer Aniston (Source: Getty Images)

Jennifer Aniston (Source: Getty Images)

Jennifer Aniston wore a vintage Galliano gown- I like the gown, but there is too much cleavage, maybe it’s the fit. Somehow short of awesome!

Lupita N'yongo (Source: Getty Images)

Lupita N’yongo (Source: Getty Images)

Lupita N’yongo tried a fashion risk with this psychedelic long sleeved Eli Saab gown. It wasn’t a stunner, but something different and fresh!

Sound off your views!

… And the boring/worst dressed of Oscars 2014

After covering the best of Oscars 2014, it is only fair to cover the underwhelming and worst dressed. There weren’t any crazy out of the world dresses, just plain boring.

FROM THE BORING TO PLAIN BAD

Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie )Source: Invision)

Margot Robbie )Source: Invision)

One of the discoveries for this year, Wolf of Wall Street Margot Robbie disappointed in this goth like black gown by Saint Laurant with diamonds necklace and earrings to match her now darker hair (she used to be blonde). The make up was overdone, the hair is too dark- she needs to fire her stylist and hair and make-up team ASAP!

Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts (Source: Invision)

Julia Roberts (Source: Invision)

Julia Roberts’ return to red carpet season hasn’t been great- with the shirt gown and the pantsuit. For Oscars, the newly blonde Julia wore a black sleeveless lace gown by Givenchy. The dress was fine, but the camisole like inset makes it plain weird.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway (Source: Getty Images)

Anne Hathaway (Source: Getty Images)

Another weird black number was the one Anne Hathaway wore- designed by Gucci, it has this metallic detail. Moreover the gown wasn’t right for Oscars- probably more fit for something more casual. Not a fan!

Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick (Source: WireImage)

Anna Kendrick (Source: WireImage)

Third black dress that was underwhelming was Anna Kendrick’s edgy black with mesh details and a thigh high slit on J Mendel. Anna took a risk and tried something different, but it has far too much going on and wasn’t appropriate for Oscars. Fail!

Jennifer Garner

Jennifer Garner (Source: WireImage)

Jennifer Garner (Source: WireImage)

One of my favorites Jennifer Garner wore a silver beaded Oscar de la Renta gown with tiered detail. I don’t hate this look, I just have seen it too many times on the red carpet to get excited by it. Better luck next year!

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie (Source: WireImage)

Angelina Jolie (Source: WireImage)

Another red carpet favorite that disappointed by choosing a relatively boring dress was Angelina Jolie. Angelina wore a metallic Elie Saab gown- the gown is great, but there have been many similar ones on the red carpet before.

Viola Davis

Viola Davis (Source: Invision)

Viola Davis (Source: Invision)

Viola Davis wore a green Escada gown- I love the color, but I am not a fan of the fabric or the fitting. I love Viola Davis, but this dress just doesn’t work for me, sorry!

That’s it folks! I love sharing my opinions on the award show fashion trends- thanks for reading, and please continue to share your views by commenting on the posts below…

Oscars Fashion 2014- Best looks!

Hi everyone!

So excited to post about the Oscars fashion. I have a small gripe before I get started- E! decided live from red carpet should stop showing the short interviews, and make it all about the views of Kelly, Guiliana and some reality TV randoms.

There were a lot of different trends on the carpet- ranging from nudes to black and white, to bright vivid colors!

MY FAVORITE LOOKS

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock (Source: WireImage)

One of my favorite looks of the awards was Sandra Bullock. As a Best Actress nominee, I was hoping she would wear something spectacular and blow me away. And she delivered- in this stunning strapless Alexander McQueen gown. Absolute winner!

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence (Source: WireImage)

Jennifer Lawrence (Source: WireImage)

Best Supporting Actor nominee and fan favorite Jennifer Lawrence doesn’t disappoint- she stayed loyal to Dior Couture, and chose a red strapless number with a statement necklace. Flawless!

Charlize Theron

Charlize

Charlize Theron (Source: Getty Images)

This look had very different reactions, but I absolutely loved Charlize Theron’s look in this gorgeous fishtail black Christian Dior gown with invisible straps. It stood out in the red carpet as a wow look with its unusual neckline. Another stunner- the Harry Winston diamonds- can someone please get it for me, pretty please?

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita N'yongo (Source: Invision)

Lupita N’yongo (Source: Invision)

Fashion it girl Lupita Nyong’o was the star of the red carpet season this year, stunning everyone in her debut film and fashion choices. I loved her pick for her Oscars debut, where she wore a plunging blue fairytale gown by Armani. In her interviews, Lupita said she this gown was made for her, and she chose it because it reminded her of her native Nairobi. Perfect choice- love it!

Amy Adams

Amy Adams (Source: Invision)

Amy Adams (Source: Invision)

I love Amy Adams- she is always the star of the red carpet, and she has been rocking the red carpet this award season as Best Actors nominee. When I first saw her in this strapless navy blue gown by Gucci with Tiffany jewels, I was slightly underwhelmed. It felt like she wore the gown before, and the hair and accessories were just average. But when I looked at pictures, I added her to best dressed- the fitting is simply impeccable! She looks like a movie star!

Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett (Source: Getty Images)

Cate Blanchett (Source: Getty Images)

Best actor nominee and favorite to win Cate Blanchett always wears unique outfits on the red carpets that keep people talking. Cate chose a nude Armani gown with silver beaded details. The gown got diverse reactions, but I loved this dress- it was different and she stood out in the sea of gowns.

Naomi Watts

Naomi Watts (Source: WireImage)

Naomi Watts (Source: WireImage)

Naomi Watts looked incredible in this gorgeous white Calvin Klien gown- this gown by itself is fine, but she made it to best dressed with this edgy Bulgari necklace.

10 notable looks from SAG Awards 2014

Hi everyone

As award season rolls on, last night was the SAG Awards 2014. I felt the gowns at SAG awards were better than Golden Globes. I hated fewer dresses, and there were a few WOW moments.

Here are the top 10 looks (some wow and some bad) from the SAG awards

Amy Adams (Source: Getty Images)

Amy Adams (Source: Getty Images)

Amy Adams was the star of the night in this blue one shouldered Antonio Berardi gown with waist detail. She looked every inch the superstar!

Lupita Nyongo (Source: Getty Images)

Lupita Nyongo (Source: Getty Images)

The new fashion darling- Lupita Nyongo has been on everyone’s fashion must-watch list. I was a bit underwhelmed with her choice with the Golden Globes, because it was so much like Gwyneth Paltrow wore at Oscars 2012. But with this bright turqoise Gucci dress, I totally get the hype about her. The highlight for me with the Fred Leighton jewelry that completely complemented the dress.

Jennifer Lawrence (Source: Getty Images)

Jennifer Lawrence (Source: Getty Images)

After the Golden Globes debacle, Jennifer Lawrence got it right in this strapless Dior gown. I am still not a fan of the pixie haircut, but she looked awesome!

Sofia Vergara (Source: Getty Images)

Sofia Vergara (Source: Getty Images)

My fashion favorite Sofia Vergara looked stunning in this silver embellished Donna Karen gown. I think the reason I am obsessed with this look is because of the diamond and emerald Victorian styled necklace by Amarpali jewels- absolutely gorgeous necklace!

Cate Blanchett (Source: Getty Images)

Cate Blanchett (Source: Getty Images)

Cate Blanchett wore a baby pink Givenchy gown- this look has me torn- while it is a toal departure from her gown to the Golden Globes and is unusual, I feel like it makes her look pregnant and heavy on top. Not sure if I love it?

Sandra Bullock (Source: Getty Images)

Sandra Bullock (Source: Getty Images)

Sandra Bullock wore an effortlessly sexy Lanvin frock with bow detail. But her hair and makeup made her look kinda old. I also wish she wore some jewelry with it- either long earrings or a necklace. Just a tad plain for my taste!

Julia Roberts (Source: Getty Images)

Julia Roberts (Source: Getty Images)

Julia Roberts wore a Valentino jumpsuit- from top down, she looked like a movie star. But the bottom half looks more like clown pants. I am just not a fan of the look! There was so much hype about her return to the red carpet, and so far she has not really brought her fashion A game.

kerry-washington

Kerry Washington (Source: Getty Images)

I should start this by saying I love Kerry Washington! She looked like a movie star at the Golden Globes and totally pulled of the pregnant chic look. But the look is absolutely ridiculous- Kerry wore a fuchsia blouse and midnight blue skirt- custom Gucci, and flashing her midriff. I get that the baby bump is the new sexy- but this just makes her look fat! The skirt makes her look a lot bigger than she is, the top is so blah! Just doesn’t work!

Jennifer Garner (Source: Getty Images)

Jennifer Garner (Source: Getty Images)

Jennifer Garner wore a strapless midnight blue Max Mara gown with a train- it wasn’t a wow gown, but she always knows how to bring it to the red carpet. Movie star!

Elisabeth Moss (Source: Getty Images)

Elisabeth Moss (Source: Getty Images)

Elisabeth Moss looked divine in a red strapless Michael Kors gown with black belted waist. I feel like her hair styling was a bit plain, but overall still a good look.

That rounds it up! What do you think- Do you agree with my picks?

Golden Globes 2014 Fashion Lowdown

This is the start of another exciting award season- my favorite time of the year, where I can dream about being thin, fabulous and fitting into these glamorous gowns!

The Golden Globes was a big disappointment- there weren’t many WOW looks, a lot of the gowns looked like gowns we have seen before. There were a lot of colors- from bold reds, to canary yellows…

Here are some of the best looks!

Image

Amy Adams (Source: Getty Images)

Winner Amy Adams looked stunning in this two toned Valentino gown with plunging neckline. I love her, she is one of the biggest stars of 2013- Amy seems to be in every movie! Go Amy!

Image

Cate Blanchett (Source: Getty Images)

Another winner, Blue Jasmine star Cate Blanchett wore a gorgeous black Armani Prive gown. I loved the lacy details of the gown, and the backless style really suited Cate. What I am more obsessed about is the green diamond Chopard earrings- such class!

Image

Julianne Marguiles (Source: Getty Images)

I am obsessed with Good Wife and Julianne Marguiles- the show gets better and better with time. But I digress- I loved Julianne Marguiles’s gown. I love the black and gold concept gown by Andrew Gn- this gown got mixed reactions, but I really loved it!

Image

Margot Robbie (Source: Getty Images)

The Wolf of Wall Street star Margot Robbie stunned in this V neck cream Gucci gown- it is hard color to look good in, but she really rocked the look!

Image

Kate Beckinsale (Source: Getty Images)

Kate Beckinsale looked stunning in this Zuhaid Murad gown- I feel like I have seen her in metallics in other award seasons, but hey if the look works then why not!

Image

Amber Heard (Source: Getty Images)

Sexy starlet Amber Heard rocked this navy blue Versace gown, showing the world her stunning legs. I am not a fan of the messy hair raising bouffant- too messy!

And here are some of the worst looks!

Sandra Bullock (Source: Getty Images)

Sandra Bullock (Source: Getty Images)

Gravity star and fan favorite Sandra Bullock wore a black, pink, and blue Prabal Gurung gown. The gown was all wrong- too many colors, not the right fit- it just did not work for her.

Julia Roberts (Source: Getty Images)

Julia Roberts (Source: Getty Images)

I was really looking forward to Julia Roberts’ return to award season- and her first look was a total disappointment. Her black and white Dolce and Gabbana gown looked more like a waitress outfit from the top.

Image

Jennifer Lawrence (Source: Getty Images)

My last award season favorite was a complete and utter disappointment in this white Dior gown. The gown looked more like a trash bag that was held together with two awkward belts. Sigh!

71st Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Paula Patton (Source: Getty Images)

Another fashionable star that disappointed was Paula Patton- the cream gown with huge ruffle embellishments completely enveloped her sexy figure.

Kaley Cuoco (Source: Getty Images)

Kaley Cuoco (Source: Getty Images)

I love Kaley Cuoco and I love the concept of a floral gown but looking at her in this Rani Zakhem gown made me realize that floral prints almost always resemble curtains!

Zoe Saldana (Source: Getty Images)

Zoe Saldana (Source: Getty Images)

I am very torn about Zoe Saldana’s Prabal Gurung gown- I love it on top, but with the shoulder straps, detailed in the bottom, and other embellishment, there is way too much going on. Such a pity too! I watched Prabal Gurung win Project Runway- I am a huge fan!
